This month’s issue of QT features a work by Leith Cohoe. This is Leith’s Bestiary piece, produced on Fabriano 200gsm paper, is based on the Basilisk, a legendary ‘king of serpents’ from Greek and Roman myth. Leith chose to use the Gothic hand and the materials she used were Walnut ink, Jo Sonja paints in rich gold and pale gold, Posca pens C3 and C5, coloured pencils, fine liners and gel pens.

The borders reflect the words within the poem that Jill so cleverly penned, that include references to the weather, the large machinery used and safety equipment the workers rely on.

‘Quillo Talk’ is the monthly newsletter of the Calligraphers’ Guild of WA (CGWA) and distributed to our members electronically as a PDF by email. Country and city members who are unable to attend meetings rely on the newsletter for up to date information on the happenings within the Guild. The newsletter also provides information on upcoming workshops, exhibitions and other calligraphy based articles and events.
The newsletter is also distributed Australia and worldwide.
Each month the front cover is designed by a different Guild member giving all members a chance to use and display their creative talents.
Quillo Talk (aka The Quillo or QT) has been published now for over 30 years. The first Guild Newsletter was published in 1985.
Each month we will publish a quote in the Quillo. We invite you to create a piece using the quote to submit to the editor of the Quillo Talk for publication in the following months ‘QT’ and on this page of our website.
Members also have the option to have their birthday date published in Quillo Talk and are encouraged to exchange handmade cards. These are then brought along and displayed by members at the Guild’s monthly meetings.
